Environmental management

The Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna airport has implemented an Environmental Management System that identifies all aspects that have a significant impact on the environment.

Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport has taken on a commitment to develop its activities in a way that is respectful of the environment. Thus, in March of the year 2003 it initiated the implementation of an environmental management system based on theinternational standards UNE-EN ISO 14001. This system was certified by AENOR on June 3rd 2004.

Through this system Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport adds the environmental factor to the management of its activities and, taking into account that most of these are directly related to the maintenance of equipment and facilities, the adoption of guidelines in environmental matters not only leads to an improvement of the airport environment, but also to an improvement of the airport management.

Therefore, a series of measures have been introduced to improve wastewater effluent, waste management, prevention of soil pollution, controlling the consumption of natural resources, atmospheric emissions and storage of hazardous substances.

In addition to these practices are the training programmes and awareness campaigns designed for the workers and the control and monitoring of all the companies that conduct activities on airport premises.
